Stone Lake Spa and Resort project
Some members of the community have asked: Where do the candidates stand?
Our platforms may all sound similar, but what do we actually stand for in the community, and what side of the line are we on?
I am sure those of you who have been following have seen another candidate’s position on the Stone Lake Spa and Resort project and his decision not to support it.
I wholeheartedly support this project.
I recently had the opportunity to meet with Rick and Heather, the owners who are taking on this endeavour, which I believe will bring value to the area.
My opponent has raised some excellent questions but has not taken the time to speak with Rick and Heather. They have expressed to me that they are more than willing to answer any questions or concerns about the project.
They will be holding a public presentation about their project soon. From what they have shown me, I feel they have addressed the concerns that have been raised.
The site plan takes mature trees into consideration. They have adjusted the location of the buildings so they do not have to remove these trees, demonstrating respect for the environment.
The plan also pays homage to the history of the area.
The project could create up to 200 jobs, and they have a plan for staff housing that will not affect existing rentals in the area. It will bring workers here with the potential for full-time employment and the opportunity to live and become part of our community.
Traffic is increasing throughout Calabogie. A traffic study was presented to Council on April 16, 2026, regarding traffic on Calabogie Road in Springtown. It showed that in November 2024, approximately 2,040 vehicles travelled through Springtown per day. By September 2025, that number had grown to 3,239 vehicles per day. That is an increase of more than 1,000 vehicles per day in less than a year, without any major project being completed.
Water will be drawn from the lake at a rate that is far less than what the project is permitted to draw. The owners have the exact numbers and are happy to share them. There will also be a water treatment system, so there will be no septic system affecting the groundwater.
They have hired designers and engineers to address noise concerns. They have the expertise and experience to build these types of spas next to railways and in city centres.
I believe this project will bring value to our area. From what I have seen and learned, Rick and Heather are approaching it with respect for the area, while keeping nature and the surrounding environment at the forefront.
I encourage everyone to follow this project, attend the public presentation, ask questions, and learn more about what is being proposed.
